Today is Aita’s birthday!
I’m not allowed to tell you how old he is, but I can say he’s having a good few days of Basque celebrations to coincide with his birthday this year.
We went to Chino for the Chino Basque Club‘s annual Basque picnic this past weekend. (You can see pictures and videos from the picnic on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter). Aita loves the hot weather, the food, and the chance to see his old buddies from all over California.
And today we’re going to Aita’s favorite restaurant, the Basque Cultural Center. He’s been in the United States for 51 years, and all of his favorite things here have to do with Basque culture.
I did an interview with him a few months ago with questions submitted by followers of Hella Basque. Aita talked about how one of the main things he missed about the Basque Country was the food. So at least for Labor Day weekend and his birthday, he gets to eat Basque food.
You can watch that interview and learn more about Aita on the Hella Basque YouTube channel:
Zorionak, Aita! Here’s to many more years of Basque festivals and loving life.
