Last week, I posted about how 2020 is a Jaialdi year, and it turns out a lot of you are just as excited about this as I am.
If you’re not in the loop, Jaialdi is the largest Basque festival in the United States that only comes around once every 5 years. The Basque community in Boise, Idaho hosts this 4-day affair featuring dancers, musicians, and athletes from the Basque Country, as well as from our own Basque American communities.
I read that the last Jaialdi in 2015 drew crowds of 35,000 to 50,000 people. Not bad for a city with just over 200,000 people!
It’s going to be a huge celebration of Basque culture right here in the United States, and it’s happening July 28th to August 2nd.
Never been and don’t know what to expect? Or just looking to get a preview of what kind of fun we’re going to have this summer? I put together this list of videos I found from Jaialdi’s of years past to give you a glimpse of what’s coming to Boise this year.

Today on the YouTube channel, we’re talking about the San Inazio Basque festival that happens every July in Boise, Idaho.
I wasn’t able to make it because I was doing Basque walking tours in San Francisco, but some of the nice people over at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center took some videos for the Hella Basque YouTube channel.
I put them together as a compilation of the Basque dance performances from the weekend. Watch performances by 3 different dance groups: Boiseko Gazteak, Oinkari Basque Dancers, and Oñati Dantza Taldea.
Enjoy!

Today on the YouTube channel, we’re talking about the Basque festival that happens every Labor Day weekend in Chino, California.
The Chino Basque Club’s 51st annual picnic took place at the Chino Fairgrounds last weekend. I went down with my entire family for 3 days of Basque activities – handball games, delicious meals, and plenty of Basque dancing.
So today you can follow along on our adventures in Chino. Hope you enjoy it!

Baztandarren Biltzarra takes place in Elizondo but it’s a celebration of all the towns in the valley of Baztan. Since 1964, the 15 villages of the valley come together to put on an annual parade through the streets of Elizondo, full of traditional costumes, music, and dancing. The parade may look like a beautiful display of traditional Basque culture to outsiders like me, but it’s actually a competition between the villages.

Today’s video is all about Nevada! The 56th National Basque Festival took place in Elko, Nevada last weekend. I wasn’t able to make it because I was doing Basque walking tours in San Francisco, but my sister Stephanie made it out there for the party. She was gracious enough to take over the Hella Basque YouTube channel to document the event for us.
