Hella Basque On Hiatus – October 2019

Hella Basque On Hiatus – October 2019

You may have seen on social media that I’m going to the Basque Country in October for the 7th World Congress of Basque Groups Abroad.

I’ve been trying to balance Hella Basque and my everyday life this month with a little more difficulty than usual. Some new opportunities came my way at work, so I’ve been spending more time on non-Hella Basque projects.

I had hopes of scheduling a whole bunch of blog posts and videos ahead of my trip, so that you guys would have a fresh stream of content while I’m documenting my time in the Basque Country. But life didn’t work out that way this month, and I haven’t had the time.

The Hella Basque YouTube Channel is 6 Months Old!

Today on the YouTube channel, we’re celebrating our 6-month anniversary!

6 months ago, I started publishing a new video every week about a different Basque topic. In this short time, the Hella Basque YouTube channel has grown to more than 700 Subscribers and more than 23,000 views!

Thank you so much to everyone who has been following the Hella Basque YouTube journey. To repay you for your support, today’s video is a Q&A where I answer the questions you submitted on Hella Basque’s social media pages.

Everything You Need to Know About the Basque Flag

Everything You Need to Know About the Basque Flag

The flag is like our own secret emblem. When you see it out in the world, not in the Basque Country, it’s something to get excited about. A sign that our fellow Basques are around.

I’ve always known how the flag makes me feel, but I decided to do some research into where it came from and what it means.

I hope you find some of this information useful!

Basque Dancing at San Inazio Festival in Boise, Idaho (VIDEO)

Today on the YouTube channel, we’re talking about the San Inazio Basque festival that happens every July in Boise, Idaho.

I wasn’t able to make it because I was doing Basque walking tours in San Francisco, but some of the nice people over at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center took some videos for the Hella Basque YouTube channel.

I put them together as a compilation of the Basque dance performances from the weekend. Watch performances by 3 different dance groups: Boiseko Gazteak, Oinkari Basque Dancers, and Oñati Dantza Taldea.

Enjoy!

5 Videos on Basque Immigrants in the United States

5 Videos on Basque Immigrants in the United States

I went through YouTube looking for information on Basque immigrants in the United States. I love learning what I can about the diversity of experiences Basque immigrants had and the places they ended up.

What’s really special is the videos I found feature the descendants of Basque immigrants and how they celebrate their pride in their Basque heritage. So not only can you discover more about why Basque immigrants of years past came to the United States, but also how their presence is felt generations later.

If that sounds like something you want to learn more about, check out this interesting mix of formal news reports and individual video compilations.
